December 13, 1784 – Frightful news arrived today. It has long been suspected that the Nox were responsible for Laki, and proof has been obtained by the British Explorer’s League. We now know that this eruption was an attack upon humanity, the first of many that have been planned.

I have received letters from several of my fellows. A parley has been proposed by our friend in London, and we await word from the Vale. It is my fervent hope that cooler heads may prevail before this situation spirals into a greater disaster.

Already we feel the effects in San Antonio de Bexar. This winter has been harsh, the air colder than one could imagine some mornings. Farmers have lost more livestock than anticipated, and there is fear of a food shortage before crops can be planted in the spring.
